1970’s ladies

Several distinct fashion trends have left an indelible image of this decade… platform shoes, high waisted flared jeans, bell bottomed trousers, maxi dresses in floral patterns, lurex halter neck tops, velvet dresses, satin hotpants, zippered jumpsuits and feather boas.

Make up was garish and glittery. Long-straight hair was a fashion mainstay until the arrival of ‘punk’ and the ‘disco look’ towards the end of the era when hair became shorter.

1970’s men

1970’s men began wore stylish three-piece suits, characterized by wide lapels, wide legged or flared trousers, and high-rise waistcoats. Neckties were wide and bold, shirt collars – long and pointed.  Men’s hair, like women’s, was worn extremely long.

In the mid to late 70’s the ‘Punk’ style originated …ripped jeans, torn t-shirts, worn and torn leather jackets, safety pins, PVC or tartan trousers, mohawks, spiked or harshly dyed hair, pointy Beatle boots and straight, cigarette-legged jeans came into vogue.
